The Mayor, Alderman Maurice Devenney, has included the MS Society and Parkinsons UK as his charities for this year. All funds from his appeal events will be shared between the two charities. He organised a concert in Bready Cricket Club on 23 February featuring Curtis Magee, billed as Ireland's Favorite Singer. Pictured at the event with the Mayor are Curtis Magee, Ivan Black, Manager of Bready Cricket Club, Jack Glenn, Chair Parkinsons UK, and Raymond McGinn, Chair of the MS Society Foyle branch. Pictures from the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in St. Columb's Cathedral, another of the charity events, are posted on the Local Support page.
Foyle Branch Chairperson, Raymond, attended the MS Awards Gala event in London on Monday, 26th. September. Although he was pipped at the post by the winner, Amrit Gajjar, Marie insists he's a winner with her. The event was attended by Special guests boyband JLS, food critic Jay Rayner, TV presenter Phillipa Forrester, radio 1 DJ Scott Mills and TV chef Ainsley Harriot. Raymond is pictured with Ainsley and no doubt Marie can now look forward to a range of exotic new meals .

The 3rd annual quiz in the Waterfoot Hotel on Wednesday, 7th September 2011, was enjoyed by the large attendance.

Long time volunteer with MS Foyle, Margaret Buchanan, nearest the bubbly, celebrated her birthday in style at the quiz.

As part of MS Awareness Week -23 -29 May, the MS Society organised a UK wide project aimed at increasing awareness of the effects of MS by inviting individuals to record their stories on video.
The Foyle Branch of the MS Society established a booth at Foyleside and invited persons with MS to record their stories. A total of 17 participated and a number of their videos, along with videos from across the UK, can now be viewed on the UK Mapping page.
The Foyle Branch also met with the local MP, Mark Durkin, and presented him with a copy of the MS Society Manifesto.

Managing the Challenge is a programme of courses giving advice on how to become an expert patient and active self-manager. The programme incorporates understanding and managing common symptoms, exercising for fun and fitness and healthy eating. The course also offers advice on managing medicines and making treatment decisions. It is directed mainly towards those who have a chronic illness.
Mark Gamble, a member of the Foyle Branch, attended the courses and spoke of how it had helped him at a day of Celebration at the conclusion of the course.

The Xmas 2010 Dinner was held in the Waterfoot Hotel on Thursday, 2nd. December. Despite the atrocious weather, a large attendance, some pictured below, enjoyed a great evening.
The 2010 AGM took place in the Foyle Disability Resource Centre on Tuesday, 25 May. The meeting was addressed by the Mayor, Councillor Paul Fleming. Terry reported another very busy year. Raymond McGinn was elected Chairperson and Naomi O'Loughlin was elected Vice-Chairperson. The members of the outgoing committee were all re-elected.

Raymond, pictured above with Terry & Eunan, doesn't look too overwhelmed by his elevation to high office but don't be fooled by the smile - expect him to run a tight ship and keep the committee members' noses to the grindwheel.
Congratulations to Terry on his successful completion of the Law Centre NI's Welfare Rights Advisers Programme. The programme was accredited by the National Open College Network (NOCN).
The certificate was presented to Terry by the Mayor, Councillor Paul Fleming.

The MSFoyle Santa Stroll for MS took place in Roe Valley Country Park on a bright, frosty 12 December. The enthusiastic strollers enjoyed the crisp winter scenes and raised around £1000 for the branch.


The 2009 AGM of the Foyle Branch was held in the Foyle Disability Resource Centre at 3pm on Tuesday, 26 May.
The Mayor, Councillor Diver, welcomed the attendance and expressed his appreciation of the work of the branch.The minutes of the 2009 AGM were presented by Marie and adopted. Written reports presented by Terry, & Moira were adopted by the meeting. The financial statement, presented on behalf of Damien , was also adopted.
Verbal updates were presented, on the counselling service by Madeline, and on the physiotherapy provision by Louise.
A tribute to Eimear Cunningham was presented by Etna. It has been added to the Members' Page .
The Guest Speaker was Patricia Gordon, Director of the MS Society in Northern Ireland.

Elections of officers and committee were completed. Details have been added to the Who Where page. Peter, who has been elected Chairperson of the NI Interim Council, stood down as Chairperson of the branch but was elected to serve on the committee.
Some of the attendance enjoy a cup of tea and a chat afterwards.
