Local Support For Foyle Branch
As reported elsewhere on this page, the Mayor, Alderman Maurice Devenney, has selected the Foyle branches of the MS Society and Parkinsons UK for his charities. All proceeds from the Festival go to the two charities.

The amazing Nelson McGonagle and his Charity Committee have been organising an annual charity fundraising programme in Limavady each year for the last dozen years or so. Each year Nelson selects three charities and this year he selected the Alzheimers Society, Cancer Research UK and once again, the Foyle MS Society. The total raised was an believable £30900 and this was shared between the charities. Nelson is pictured presenting each of the charities with £10300 (an additional £400 was collected after the joint presentation cheque was prepared). A big thank you to Terri Kennedy & Donna McDowell who again ran the Dublin marathon for MS. They are pictured presenting a cheque for £720 to Terry.



Intrepid London colleagues of Gemma, whose Mum in Derry has MS, Elgin & Ollie, without a day's training between them, decide to cycle from London to Paris to raise money for MS. They are pictured above at the start of their adventure outside St Pancras station and at their triumphant arrival in Paris. Nelson McGonagle has organised an annual charity event for the last dozen years or so. He includes a golf event at Roe Valley Golf Club, a monster raffle and a number of ancillary events. He usually selects three charities to benefit. In recent years he has included MSFoyle as one of his charities and this year we are delighted he has again included the MS Society along with Cancer Research UK and the Alzheimer's Society

Cliona Evans, helped by daughter, Jennifer-Ella & son, Bobby, organised a Cake Bake at her own home & at her in-laws' farm house and collected £150 for MSFoyle.

Foyle MS Society thanks to Pat and Mervyn Brown who held a tea party at their home and raised a magnificient £1,000 for Foyle Branch.
Danni Barr, Aileen Roddy, Colleen Watson and Claire Lynn, four North West Regional College students completing a Beauty Therapy Level 3 course offered therapies to people and held a raffle and raised £419 for MS Society Foyle. Our thanks to the students and their tutor Jackie Matchett.

John and Margaret Moody celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary recently and asked that family and friends donate money instead of presents to MS Society Foyle and the Red Cross. John & Margaret are pictured presenting Terry with a cheque for £750 for MS Society Foyle.

Some of Eimear's friends held a quiz and a 80's disco at Sandino's bar on Saturday 2nd April and raised £774 on the night. A fantastic attendance helped to make this a super night and we thank Jacqueline, Margaret, Niamh and Ursula for organising it. Our thanks as well to Michele, Ronan and Jimmy (Quiz) and James (DJ).
We gratefully acknowledge a further contribution of £20 from a person unable to attend the event.
Valerie and George Crawford of Foyle Dry Cleaners held a charity night in the Gransha Club on Saturday 19th March and raised a total of £3,520 which was split between MS Society Foyle and Meningitis UK. There was a massive turnout on the night with poledancers and music that got everyone on the floor. Thanks to Valerie and George for hosting such a fantastic charity night.

Caroline Cutliffe presents a cheque for £1,735, half the proceeds raised at the MS charity ball in the City hotel, Friday 18th March. Committee members from Foyle Branch attended and had a fantastic night.
Our thanks to Michael Healy, Brian McFadden, Caroline Cutliffe and all at Thornhill College for their support. Thanks also to those who donated towards the raffle/auction and went along on the night.

Caroline celebrated her 30th on 24th September in style in Dino's New York Italian Bar & Grill. She organised a charity Gangsters & Molls
evening in aid of the Foyle Branch of the MS Society and donated the £435 raised to the branch. A big thank you to Caroline and all the Mafiosi.

Kevin is in the final year of a degree course at Magee in Multi Media Computing and Design. He is pictured presenting Terry with a cheque for £400, the proceeds of his sponsored run in the Waterside Half-Marathon.
An additional £31 has been received bringing the total to £431
While Mark has been busy steeling himself for his ordeal on 28th September, his granny, Lily, has been quietly working on behalf of the society. Lily raised £90 from her knitting and £585 from a raffle in aid of Foyle branch.
Lily is pictured with a proud looking Mark. We're sure she joins the rest of us in hoping that Mark will still be able to smile after 3.30pm on the 28th.

Once again the Sandwich Co organised a golf classic in aid of MS. This year the
classic was at
Greencastle Golf Club on Saturday, 19 June, and the proceeds were again divided
between MSFoyle and the
Donegal society. A total of £1800 was raised.

Michael Henry has once again run the London marathon in support of MSFoyle. Michael has long been a great supporter of the MS Society in the North-West. This year he raised a fantastic £2500 despite the impact of the economic downturn.

The Victoria Line Dancers raised a total of £2900 from a number of fundraising events throughout the year. They divided the funds between MSFoyle & the Alzheimer's Society. They presented MSFoyle with £1450 at a fantastic evening's fun in the Du Pont Club where they were joined on the floor by a number of intrepid MSFoyle members.

Staff from St. Patri"On Friday 24th September 2010, a Charity Gangsters and Molls evening was organised by Caroline Young to celebrate her 30th Birthday and raise funds for the Foyle branch of the MS Society. The event was held in Dino's New York Italian Bar and Grill,ck's Primary School, Pennyburn, organised a book sale and presented the proceeds to MSFoyle. Lorraine Fleming, Dawn Robinson and Isobel Scott from Donemana Girls Brigade held an enrolment collection raising £150 and very kindly donated the money to MS Foyle.

William Wallace organised a band concert for three charities, MS Foyle, Marie Curie and PSP . A total of £1,200 was raised and divided among the three charities.

Gerald and Gerti O'Neill and Nicola Gardner organised a pony drive on 18th October in Donemana in aid of MS Foyle. The drive was followed by a supper, an auction and raffle in Devines bar. The craic was good and a total of £835 was raised.

Caitriona Cunningham hosted a big breakfast on Sunday 1st November and invited friends and family. Caitriona's breakfast raised £200 on the morning for MS Foyle.

George Crawford of Foyle Dry Cleaners presents a cheque for £320 to Terry. The
money was
raised jointly by Ashfield Dry Cleaners, Omagh, and Foyle Dry Cleaners Derry and is to
be used for research purposes.
Colleen O'Neill, Proprietor of Ban Joes Bar in Dungiven, organised a charity night in aid of MS during the Christmas period. A packed house was treated to a superb evening's entertainment and a magnificant total of £2200 was raised. Terry, revealing a hitherto hidden talent, officiated as a judge. Foyle MS was presented with £1200 and £1000 was presented to RAMS (Race Against MS). Thank you to Colleen, Ciara & Cherina and all who participated or contributed.

colleagues from the University of Ulster School of Nursing completed the Waterside half marathon.
On
Friday 6th June 2008 Dunbia, (formerly Dungannon Meats) based at Granville Industrial Estate
Dungannon Co. Tyrone, held their annual charity BBQ at Dungannon Rugby Club. The charity event
was attended by approximately eighty employees from Team Leader level to Senior Management who
all enjoyed a tasty steak BBQ and then danced the night away to some old classics! All proceeds
from the evening were donated to Foyle MS Society.
A cheque for £2000 was presented to Fiona
Farrell from Foyle MS Society by Managing Director, Kenny Swann. A huge
thank-you to organiser, Kenny Swann, and to all from Dunbia who donated
so generously to Foyle MS Society.

Nelson's Charity Day includes a golf classic on 14

which was shared between the Foyle Branch & Cystic Fibrosis.

Michael Henry raised a fanatastic £3500 through his sponsored run in the 2008 London marathon. He donated £500 to the Strabane Branch & £3000 to the Foyle Branch.

Mark Gamble presented Terry with the proceeds of a raffle organised by himself & his mother, Jacqueline, to raise funds for the Branch. A lot of the prizes were items Jacqueline knitted and together they raised £720.

Pupils from Limavady Central Primary School made a magnificent presentation of £570 to Foyle Branch of the MS Society. Sandra Robinson, the organiser, accompanied by some of the participants, presents a cheque for £3771.32 jointly to Terry & Mary Crawford of Friends of Spruce House. The proceeds of a sponsored walk from The Inn on the Cross to Claudy and a dance in the Beaufort Hotel in Claudy were shared equally between the MSFoyle Branch and the Friends of Spruce House. Naomi & her friends undertook a sponsored parachute jump in aid of the Foyle Branch on Saturday, 3rd June 2006. Despite experiencing a relapse of her MS on the day, Naomi completed the jump. Eglinton Cricket Club held a 'Rangers v Celtic' cricket match at their club grounds as part of their cross-community work and raised £150 which they donated to MS Society Foyle. Terry gratefully accepts the cheque from Jason Olphert, Sean Lynch and Andy McIntyre who organised the match.

Soroptimists International of Londonderry present Terry with a cheque for £100 to be used by the
MS Foyle Branch locally in its work supporting people affected by MS.
Open & Direct Insurance presented Foyle Branch with funding for the purchase
of IT equipment in the Branch Office. Beverley Nickell, Marketing Manager of Open &
Direct Insurance said, "As a provider of insurance to the
people in the L'Derry area for many years, we are delighted to be able to express our gratitude and
help put something back into the local community.
